There are many different ways people train there dogs to be vicious killers in the ring. Some people will have there dog do small matches with other dogs which means not having the dogs fight to the death. Others may actually do humane training like having there dogs run for strength and stamana but that mostly isn't the case.Trainers also may yell and mentally abuse their dogs until they are tough. Some might actually have there dogs attack another smaller and weaker dog so that it is use to attacking and killing another animal.

Reflection:
I believe that no one who is occupied with dog fighting trains there dog humanly. If you actually do have your dog attack another smaller and weaker dog I believe that you are a jacked up person who has issues. Also having your dog attack a smaller dog on purpose is another example of animal cruelty. Finally I believe that if you have your dog fight at all not necessarily to the death but just in general is wrong and is just as bad as having them fight to the death.

Biggest Dog Fighting Ring Bust Article

The largest dog fighting ring bust in U.S history happened this summer in July. After the raid 500 pit bulls were found and put up for adaption. The St. Louis humane society has been caring for 407 of these pit bulls. Some of these dogs were just to vicious that they had to sadly be euthanized. This show's just how far a person will go to make a few bucks, by making their dog a vicious killer and having them get euthanized when they really didn't need to. This also show's how big of a problem dog fighting is in the U.S when they have to break up a dog fighting ring with 500 pit bulls.

Reflection:
When they mention that 500 pit bulls I was surprised to discover that people would actually have 500 pit bulls ready to fight and kill each other and expect one to come out as the winner. The reason I think that one probably wouldn't win because he would have had to fight about 200 pit bulls and expect not to die of serious injuries.

Questions:
Who expects one pit bull to win a tournament between 500 pit bulls and for it to win without dying of serious injuries?
Did they think that the dog would die and only cared about the money?
Why would someone do this?

A History of Dog Fighting Article

By the 12th century dog baiting was when they would release dogs into a ring with chained up bull's and bears. The purpose of this was so that the dogs would bite the bull and tenderize the meat for consumption. Dog baiting was very famous in England for centuries. In the early 19th century the growing cost of bull's and bears, as well as the growing concern of animal cruelty damped and put an end to this sport. In 1835 the British Parliament put a band on all baiting activities. But soon after the law was passed dog on dog competition became the new legal form of baiting. Fighting dogs were cross bread in order to create a faster more agile and vicious dog capable of fighting for hours at a time. Until this became illegal in the 20th century that is.

Illegal Dog Fighting Rings Thrive in U.S. Article

In the brutal yet illegal world of dog fighting pit bulls are placed in a ring where they are forced to fight each other to the death. Although only in 48 states is this a felony the other 2 states still call this illegal. In recent months, however, high profile dog fight busts has shed light in Illinois, Texas, Virgina, and Ohio. Also the number have rescued pit bulls with scars from fighting has risen. A detective that works with the Humane Society John Goodwin said that in March detectives found a female pit bull who's jaw had been broken off in a fight and was still alive suffering and in pain. The number of pit bulls that have been turning up in animal shelters around the country has risen tenfold.

Reflection:
I believe that all 50 states should make dog fighting a felony because it is not like dog fighting only occurs in those 48 states alone. If someone is able to put a female pit bull in a dog fight and when its jaw gets broken off, not take it to an animal hospital but instead leaves it in a basement should be put in prison for life. Finally i believe that law enforcement should make dog fighting one of there top priorities to stop.

Sad Truth of Dog Fighting Article

Dog fighting used to just be run by gangs and cops could just ignore it. But now children are starting to do dog fighting to the death in alleys and empty lots. When a detective recently went to a fourth grade class room he asked all the kids "who has ever seen a dog fight" and everyone's hand shot up in the air. He then asks if they have seen a staged or planned dog fight and everyone's hand stayed up in the air. Dog fighting is considered animal cruelty because it puts the dog through a lot of pain and suffering. Dog fights are usually death matches and the dog that wins with cuts and other shocking injuries are barely ever treated which puts the dog through a lot of pain. Dogs have been rescued from airless garages and dark empty basements bleeding and suffering from injuries. Some dogs injuries are so bad that you can actually see the dos skeleton.

My opinion:

I cannot even call this a sport because I believe a sport is suppose to be fun and entertaining and I find no joy in watching innocent dogs hurt and murder one another. Some people try to say that the dogs are born killers and evil when it is the owner that is born a killer and evil who turns his innocent dog into an evil killer and for all we know the dogs are probably doing this against there will.

History of Dog Fighting Article

In history there is or was a special breed of dogs that were bread to fight but not for sport like in modern times but as human protectors. These dogs were chosen for there exceptional qualities in fighting that made them perfect for the job. They were also used as war dogs which needed to be tenacious, courageous and tireless. If the dog was bread for guarding flocks he had to be able to take down a puma or a wild boar who was menacing the flocks he was guarding without any help. Guarding property didn't just mean giving an alert that someone is coming but meant having to fight poachers, intruders and wild animals, and also including guarding its owner and its owners family.

Reflection:
I believe that using dogs in a war is wrong because the chances of a dog surviving a war is lower than a soldier. I also believe that using a dog as protection is smart but as long as you don't use them as a shield or sacrifice just so that you can get away but actually use them as something to help you defend your self or your family.

Esential Question

My esential question is what is the pupose of animal cruelty? Who commits animal cruelty? What are thier reasons? What are thier beliefs? I cannot answer any of these questions but I hope that through my research I will find the answers and will help put a stop to animal cruelty.
